There is a large population of service members living in the Monterey area that attend (DLI) the Presidio of Monterey, and Naval Support Activity Monterey (NPS). Approximately 1,500 plus students are currently attending Naval Postgraduate School. The student body consists of officers from the five U.S. uniformed services, officers from approximately 30 other countries and 87 permanent party staff members.
